Dental X-rays
At Pascack Dental Arts, we recommend regular X-rays as part of your preventative oral health care. X-rays can help in diagnosing issues, but they are also essential to spotting concerns early, even before you experience pain or discomfort. We can spot abnormalities in your oral health quickly and safely using dental X-rays to provide a treatment plan.
What Can Dental X-rays Detect?
The sooner we detect and treat dental abnormalities, the less discomfort you’ll undergo. You’ll also save some money and protect the long-term health of your teeth. Here’s a look at some of the conditions we can detect on an X-ray.
- Issues below the gum line, such as periodontal disease
- Tumors that could be cancerous
- Decay hiding between your teeth
- Abnormalities in a child’s oral development
- Bone loss
- Abscesses
- Cysts
- Tooth and root positions that are not optimal and could lead to issues
Is it Safe to Undergo Dental X-rays?
Dental X-rays use low-level radiation that specialists and researchers deem to be safe. When you undergo dental X-rays, you're exposed to the same amount of radiation as you are from natural sources in 24 hours.
At our office, we still take precautions to protect patients even from this low-level radiation. We only take dental X-rays when necessary and provide a lead apron to shield your body. Additionally, we use the most modern X-ray techniques to reduce the amount of radiation you’re exposed to.
How Often Do I Need Dental X-rays?
Your dentist will consider several factors when evaluating whether to recommend dental X-rays. These factors include your age, medical and dental history, signs and symptoms discussed during your exam, disease risk factors, etc.
When we welcome new patients to our office, we always recommend full mouth X-rays to check your overall oral health. Moving forward, we recommend bite-wing X-rays once or twice a year during your regular dental exam and cleaning to check for oral health changes.

"A little over three years ago, my older daughter Carolyn, had a bicycle accident. One of her permanent front teeth was actually knocked out. We called the office and they told us to come in immediately. It was about 6 p.m. Everyone was concerned and helpful. Dr.Guller reinserted her tooth. Needless to say, we were very frequent visitors to this office. Everyone knew us and always asked how Carolyn was doing. With everyone’s long-term help, Carolyn’s teeth look great!
Our entire family comes to Pascack Dental Arts. It’s a great place for complete dental care."
