Simple Tooth Extractions
Simple Tooth Extractions
Patients experiencing extreme tooth sensitivity or pain should see a dentist immediately. You could be suffering from advanced periodontal disease and need to have the tooth extracted. Extracting the tooth can prevent major surgery in the future.
Why You Might Need Simple Tooth Extraction
The need for simple tooth extractions can come from a variety of causes. However, the good news is, it provides pain relief. Then with restoration services, your dentist can restore your tooth to its original beauty and function.
Here’s why you might need a tooth extraction.
- Periodontal disease that’s been left untreated and leads to loose tooth roots
- Baby teeth that don’t fall out as expected and cause problems for incoming adult teeth
- Patients with severe overcrowding might need a tooth extraction to prepare for orthodontic treatment
- Taking out a tooth that has a fracture or is malformed
- Advanced tooth decay that root canal therapy cannot solve
What’s the Process for Tooth Extraction?
Before extracting your tooth, your dentist will likely take X-rays to plan for the procedure. This will guide your dentist in choosing an extraction method. Then, your dentist will administer local anesthetic.
Your dentist will then loosen the tooth’s ligaments and gum tissue using a tool called an elevator. Then the dentist will use forceps to pull the tooth out. Rarely, the tooth is so strongly rooted that your dentist will need to break the tooth into smaller pieces to remove it.
If necessary, we’ll place a few stitches to close the tooth’s socket. We’ll pack the area with gauze and have you close your jaw to apply pressure. Our office will provide instruction on how to care for the area to ensure the best healing process. Once healed, we can discuss restoration services with you, if needed.
Contact our office if you have a tooth that's causing you trouble. We'll do all we can to save the natural tooth. If we can't save it, we'll help you find relief with a tooth extraction.

"A little over three years ago, my older daughter Carolyn, had a bicycle accident. One of her permanent front teeth was actually knocked out. We called the office and they told us to come in immediately. It was about 6 p.m. Everyone was concerned and helpful. Dr.Guller reinserted her tooth. Needless to say, we were very frequent visitors to this office. Everyone knew us and always asked how Carolyn was doing. With everyone’s long-term help, Carolyn’s teeth look great!
Our entire family comes to Pascack Dental Arts. It’s a great place for complete dental care."
