Porcelain Fixed Bridges
Dental bridges can replace missing teeth. These non-removable appliances can be made of many materials. Be sure to discuss with your dentist what material is best for you. The most popular bridges are made from porcelain that is fused to metal. Porcelain bridges are popular because they look a great deal like your natural teeth.
A bridge is essentially two crowns that go over two nearby teeth to anchor it in place. Between those anchoring teeth will be artificial porcelain teeth designed to restore those that you lost. A porcelain fixed bridge can last many years but might need attention after years of wear. Be sure to continue to see your dentist regularly for an exam and cleaning where your dentist will inspect all restorations.
Porcelain fixed bridges can treat the following issues.
- Replace missing teeth
- Enable you to keep your original facial shape
- Keep existing teeth from moving out of their original position
- Allow chewing using that area of your mouth again
- Improve speaking ability and pronunciation
- Restore the beauty of your smile
- Provide a permanent fix to replace partial dentures or other removable dental appliances
What’s the Process for Getting a Porcelain Fixed Bridge?
A dental bridge generally takes at least two visits to our office. Here’s the process for implementing a dental bridge.
- We numb the area, including the anchor teeth
- We remove the enamel from the anchor teeth to make way for the crowns
- Our team takes a precise impression to prepare the bridge
- We prepare and apply a temporary bridge while we wait for your permanent bridge to come in
- You return to our office for your second appointment where we remove the temporary bridge and attach the permanent one.
- We check the shape and fit of the bridge to make sure it is comfortable and aligns well with your other teeth.
Sometimes, we use temporary cement to attach your bridge and allow you to test it out and see how it feels for a few weeks. Then you return for a third appointment where we make any necessary adjustments and permanently cement the bridge in place.
At the end of your appointment, we’ll discuss how to care for your bridge, including brushing, flossing and seeing a dentist regularly for exams and checkups. Proper care will help extend the life of your bridge.

"A little over three years ago, my older daughter Carolyn, had a bicycle accident. One of her permanent front teeth was actually knocked out. We called the office and they told us to come in immediately. It was about 6 p.m. Everyone was concerned and helpful. Dr.Guller reinserted her tooth. Needless to say, we were very frequent visitors to this office. Everyone knew us and always asked how Carolyn was doing. With everyone’s long-term help, Carolyn’s teeth look great!
Our entire family comes to Pascack Dental Arts. It’s a great place for complete dental care."
