Porcelain Crowns Woodcliff Lake NJ
Porcelain Crowns (Caps) Woodcliff Lake NJ
A crown can also be referred to as a cap. It is a covering for the whole tooth surface to restore its original strength, shape and usefulness. The cap protects the tooth while also holding its structure when the tooth can’t be restored using a filling.
There are many types of materials that dentists can use for crowns. Porcelain crowns match the color of your original tooth, which is why they are more popular than crowns made from other materials. Porcelain crowns are extremely durable and if well cared for, can last many years. You might need to replace it eventually though as it will wear with time.
At Pascack Dental Arts, we will match your porcelain crown color, shape and size to your natural tooth to give you a beautiful, functional smile.
Crowns can restore teeth after the tooth has experienced the following.
- Breaks and fractures
- Severe decay of the tooth
- Fillings with fractures
- Teeth with very large fillings
- Teeth that need a root canal
- As a cosmetic enhancement to a tooth
What’s the Process for Getting a Crown?
Most crowns require two appointments. At the first appointment, we'll create precise molds (also known as impressions) for use in creating your crown. The goal in creating these molds is to match the size and shape of your existing tooth.
We'll then create a temporary crown. Generally, there are about two weeks between these appointments where the temporary crown will protect your tooth while we craft your permanent crown.
After numbing the area, Dr. Guller will remove decay from your tooth and shape it to prepare for the crown. Then, he’ll place the temporary crown on the tooth using temporary cement. We’ll check your bite to make sure the temporary crown is comfortable and functioning well with your other teeth.
During your second appointment, we’ll remove the temporary crown, clean the tooth and place the new, permanent crown in place. Using precision, we’ll check to make sure you have adequate room between your teeth and that the crown functions well with your other teeth.
Finally, we’ll provide instructions on how to care for your crown and the surrounding area. At all future dental exams, we’ll make sure your crown is still in great shape and doing its job.

"A little over three years ago, my older daughter Carolyn, had a bicycle accident. One of her permanent front teeth was actually knocked out. We called the office and they told us to come in immediately. It was about 6 p.m. Everyone was concerned and helpful. Dr.Guller reinserted her tooth. Needless to say, we were very frequent visitors to this office. Everyone knew us and always asked how Carolyn was doing. With everyone’s long-term help, Carolyn’s teeth look great!
Our entire family comes to Pascack Dental Arts. It’s a great place for complete dental care."
